(guilty!), parking outside overnight in cold overnight temperatures means taking extra time to de-ice windows during the already hectic morning rush. Looking for a solution or two? That’s a job for Jiffy®.
A windshield treatment from Jiffy Lube will not only help increase visibility while driving in inclement weather but it will also help improve defogging of the glass and enhance the effectiveness of windshield wipers. The treatment helps rain, sleet and snow slide off your windshield.
Speaking of windshield wipers, every Jiffy Lube Signature Service Oil Change includes a windshield wiper blade inspection. Wiper blades on the front and back windshield should be replaced when performance and visibility are reduced.
Another way to speed up the removal of ice on windshields and vehicle glass is to make your own de-icing solution by combining one cup of isopropyl alcohol to one cup of water to a clean spray bottle. Store the solution at room temperature and shake well before using. Then, take these steps:
- Start your car.
- Turn the temperature to the warmest setting.
- Select “defrost” mode for the front and rear windshields.
- Turn on the blower to full blast.
- While the defroster works on melting the ice from underneath, apply your de-icer spray to the outside of the glass, careful not to over-apply the solution. Let it sit for a minute or two to start working.
- Use an ice scraper with a brush to loosen the ice and sweep it away onto the ground.
Never (ever) attempt to remove ice from your car by dumping water on it. Warm or hot water could cause the glass to crack due to thermal shock. Cold water is also a bad idea because it could freeze on contact.
