Winter is not your vehicle’s friend. The winter elements try their best to wear down your vehicle. That is why when spring rolls around, it is the perfect time to give your vehicle a good spring cleaning, both inside and out. Here are 5 ways to spring clean your vehicle and rid it of any lingering winter weather.
Wash Underneath Your Vehicle
Winter roads can add a lot of salt, sand, and corrosion to the underbelly of your vehicle. Make sure to clean the underside of your vehicle with a power washer, hose, or at a car wash. It is imperative that you wash the underside of your vehicle to prevent further corrosion, rusting, and wear to the moving parts of your vehicle.
Clean Inside and Out
Winter roads do quite the number to the paint on the outside of your vehicle, and our shoes track quite the mess inside the vehicle. Make sure to scrub down the outside of your vehicle with soap and give your vehicle a thorough waxing. Either do it on your own or seek the help of a car wash. Also, make sure to clean the inside of your vehicle, including vacuuming your floor carpets. If your carpets are really dirty, use a steam cleaner, shopvac, or cleaning spray to get the grime and dirt stuck deep in your carpet.
Wiper Blade Change
Inspect your wiper blades for crack, rips, tears, and rounded edges. If you spot any of these signs, replace your wiper blades. If your wiper blades look operational, go ahead and clean the blades off with a wet rag. Just slide the wet rag down the blade a couple times and you should be good to go.
Tire Check
First, check your tire pressure. Changing temperatures change the pressure in your tires. Make sure your tires have the optimal tire pressure for your vehicle. Next, check your tires for wear. If the tread is wearing unevenly, go to your nearest service station to get a tire rotation. If your tread is worn out, replace your tires with new ones as soon as possible.
Fluid Check
Check the levels for all the fluids under your hood, including washer fluid, coolant, motor oil, brake fluid, and transmission fluid. Make sure all your fluids are clean and full so that your vehicle is ready to tackle the warmer months without any hiccups. If any of your fluids are dirty, go to your nearest service station to change the fluid.
